What we do
Oxfam America Advocacy Fund influences legislators and educates the US public on issues pertaining to poverty with a focus on trade and humanitarian needs. We accomplish this through lobbying of legislators in Washington, DC, and by mobilizing the general public on pressing matters affecting the poor.
Issues we work on include:
Food Justice
One in seven people goes to bed hungry every night. Not because there isn't enough food, but because of deep imbalances in access to resources like fertile land and water. Oxfam's GROW campaign aims to build a better food system: one that sustainably feeds a growing population (estimated to reach nine billion by 2050) and empowers poor people to earn a living, feed their families, and thrive.

Aid Reform
US foreign aid has saved millions of lives and helped millions more overcome poverty. Yet foreign aid is still under-performing and often fails to reach the people who need it most. Oxfam America is seeking reform of US foreign aid to make it more efficient, more modern, and more focused on ending global poverty.

Right to Know, Right to Decide
Too often, poor communities have no say in the extraction of resources from their land, and receive little information about these projects. Oxfam America is undertaking a new campaign calling on oil, gas, and mining companies to respect the right of communities to participate meaningfully in decision-making and to disclose the money they pay to foreign governments. This information is crucial to ensuring that governments use these funds to reduce poverty and protect human rights.

Humanitarian Response
When disaster strikes, Oxfam's worldwide network of partners is already on the scene, providing emergency assistance. Once the immediate danger has passed, Oxfam seeks out the root causes of crises and works to bring about lasting change.
